Philip Lader (AB ’66), Chairman, WPP Group plc - London & New York
Ambassador Lader, the former U.S. Ambassador to the Court of St. James’s,
is chairman of WPP Group, the worldwide communications/media
company which includes J. Walter Thompson, Ogilvy & Mather, and Young & Rubicam,
with 97,000 people in 106 countries. He is also a senior adviser to Morgan
Stanley; a member of the boards of Lloyd's of London, Marathon Oil, AES, and
Rusal Corporations; a trustee of RAND Corporation, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and
the Smithsonian Museum of American History; and a partner in the law firm of
Nelson, Mullins, Riley & Scarborough. He formerly was a member of President
Clinton's Cabinet, White House Deputy Chief of Staff, head of the U.S. Small
Business Administration, and Deputy Director of the Office of Management & Budget.
Co-founder with his wife, Linda, of Renaissance Weekends, he previously was
executive vice president of Sir James Goldsmith’s U.S. holdings and president
of universities in South Carolina and Australia. He is a founding member of
the Sanford Institute Board of Visitors and served as its chairman from 1996-1997.
