Charles A. Sanders, MD, Durham, N.C.
Sanders is the former chairman and CEO of Glaxo Inc., and previously spent
eight years with Squibb Corp. He was general director of Massachusetts General
Hospital and professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. Sanders is also
a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences,
chairman of the foundation for the National Institutes of Health, chairman
of Project HOPE, and past chairman of The Commonwealth Fund, along with a host
of other community activities. Sanders is a civic leader in the Triangle and
ran for the U.S. Senate in the 1996 Democratic primary. A native of Dallas,
Sanders attended the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He chaired
the Sanford Institute Board of Visitors from 1997-2007.
