Internships during the Academic Year

You can complete your PPS major with an internship during the academic year.

A school-year internship must be at least 20 hours per week for at least 14 weeks, for a total of 280 hours.

You will also be required to submit a policy memo and complete all the other requirements for an internship.

No departmental stipends are available for academic-year internships.

Students pursuing academic-year internships often take three classes instead of four, and make efforts to reserve large blocks of time in their class schedule. For example, schedule only morning classes, only afternoon classes, classes only three days a week, etc.

You should make arrangements to have a car on campus for the duration of your internship.

The Career Services Office and Career Center staff can help you find a placement in the Raleigh/Durham area that will provide a meaningful work experience. The Career Services Office must approve your internship in advance.

You can receive course credit for an academic-year internship through the full-credit pass/fail course, PPS 190, if it meets the Trinity College Guidelines for Academic Internships.

Note that PPS 190 does not count toward the major's upper-level elective requirement.
