For students who matriculated in before 2005:
In order for your internship to qualify toward your PPS major, you must
have completed at least two of the four core courses for the PPS major
(PPS 55D, PPS 114, PPS 116, PPS 128 and Statistics) and any prerequisites
for those courses, prior to beginning the internship.
For students who matriculated in 2005 and afterwards:
In order for your internship to qualify toward your PPS major,
you must have completed all of the four core courses for the PPS major
(PPS 55D, PPS 114, PPS 116, PPS 128 and Statistics) and any prerequisites
for those courses, prior to beginning the internship.
In addition, you must complete a pre-internship course, either one of the courses offered by the PPS Department or another relevant course approved by the Internship Office. We can make exceptions to these requirements if you need special consideration, but we strongly encourage you to wait until you have completed this course work to pursue an internship. The purpose of the internship is to enhance your classroom experiences.
Once you have completed these prerequisites, two internship options are available: the Academic Concentration Option and the General Policy Option.
PPS majors usually complete their internships during the summer following their junior year. If you have completed the prerequisites, you may fulfill the internship requirement earlier. We encourage you to pursue internships throughout your Duke career to help you with decisions about careers and graduate school.
