Once you have located an internship placement, you will need to find housing that is safe and accessible to your workplace. It is your responsibility to find summer housing, and it is important to begin your housing search early in the spring.
PLACES TO SEARCH:
Universities in the city
Off-campus summer sublets
Seniors
Career Services office: Guide to Housing in D.C.
Career Center (110 Page Building)
Local Newspapers
Area Chamber of Commerce
RESEARCH
If you can, do some research before you begin your internship so you can show your supervisors that you already have some knowledge of their organization. You will move into substantive activities much more quickly.
CONFIRM and PREPARE
In early May, write a note to your sponsor confirming your starting date and asking if there are reading materials or other information that would help to prepare you for the internship. Follow up with a phone call about a week before you start.
Read about the topic area on which you will be working, following the issue in newspapers and newsmagazines.
Make a list of goals for your internship, with the help of your supervisor, and create a specific work plan that will accomplish these goals. Complete these planning exercises during the first week of your internship. Ask for suggestions from your supervisor. Please notify our office if your supervisor changes.
