HLP director speaks at Korean leadership conference

Taking the Hart Leadership Program’s message and mission to the international scene, HLP Director Alma Blount attended the Sookmyung Global Leadership Institute (SMGLI) Global Leadership Conference in May 2007. Held in Seoul, South Korea, the conference was sponsored by Sookmyung, a women’s university focused on developing leadership skills under the motto “gentle power to change the world.”

The conference, “Leadership Power and Influence,” comprised speeches and discussions delivered or led by several premier leadership experts. Topics included how leaders are fostered in university settings, where women fit into the world’s emerging leadership scheme, and how leadership is connected to global management. Blount, who was among a select group of female educators invited to the conference, spoke about “Leadership Pedagogy.” In her speech, she introduced HLP’s theoretical and practical underpinnings to the conference audience.

SMGLI opened in October 2002 “with the purpose of nurturing global women leaders to guide and transform the world with an enriched view of servant leadership.” The goal of the 2007 conference was to establish relationships among domestic and international scholars to encourage enhanced collaboration and understanding of 21st-century leadership trends.
