Advocacy for Women and Children Asylum Seekers, Cultural Exchange between Exploris Museum and Hart Fellows

Carolyn Fanelli worked as a Hart Fellow with the Women's Commission for Refugee Women and Children in Washington DC from 1998-99. At the Women's Commission, she researched and advocated for fairer INS practices toward women and children asylum-seekers. From 1999-2000, Carolyn was a Hart Fellow working with Exploris, an interactive global learning center located in Raleigh. She was responsible for helping to pioneer the relationship between the Hart Fellows in the field, visitors to Exploris and school children in North Carolina.

Carolyn graduated from Duke in 1998 with a major in public policy studies. After her Hart Fellowships, Carolyn worked with the Visiting International Faculty Program, a cultural exchange program for international educators based in Chapel Hill. In 2002, Carolyn was selected as a Rotary World Peace Scholar. In February 2003, she began a master's degree program in International Studies with a concentration in peace and conflict resolution at the University of Queensland, Australia. She plans to pursue a career in rebuilding educational systems in post-conflict situations.
