Children and Conflict, Health Care Access for Farmworkers, Programming for Peri-Urban, Informal Settlements

Catherine Wiesner was a Hart Fellow with UNHCR in Geneva, Switzerland from 1996-97 and then with Save the Children in Zimbabwe and Ethiopia from 1998-99. In Zimbabwe, Catherine worked with Farm Community Trust Zimbabwe on the design of a health program targeting farm worker communities and with Inter-Country Peoples' Aid in the development and coordination of new programs for peri-urban informal settlements around Harare. In Geneva and Ethiopia, Catherine worked on the ARC project (Action for the Rights of Children) to increase the capacity of UNHCR, government, and NGO field staff to protect and care for children and adolescents in emergency situations.

Catherine graduated from Duke in 1996 with a major in comparative area studies. After her Hart Fellowships, Catherine earned a Master in Public Policy and International Security at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government. She currently works in the Sierra Leone field office of the International Rescue Committee.
