Early Childhood Development, Recovery of Children Affected by Armed Conflict

Krisjon Olson was a Hart Fellow in Guatemala from 1998-2000 working with Ninos Refugiados del Mundo on issues of early childhood education in the Ixil Triangle. Krisjon also helped strengthen a new program for children recovering from armed conflict. The program allowed young people from the capital city to teach creative workshops in rural areas of Ixcan, Quiche and Santiago, Atitlan.

Krisjon graduated from Duke in 1998. While at Duke, she participated in the Hart Leadership Program's Refugee Action Project in the former Yugoslavia. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Cultural Anthropology at the University of California at Berkeley, for which she is conducting two years of research on war crimes at the War Crimes Tribunal and the International Court of Justice in The Hague, The Netherlands and in rural communities in Guatemala.
