Since fall 2006, RSL gateway options have been offered in core courses PUBPOL 114: Political Analysis in Public Policy and PUBPOL 116: Policy Choice as Value Conflict during selected semesters.
If you are enrolled in a public policy course that offers an RSL gateway option, your professor will mention this during the first class meeting of the semester, when course syllabi are distributed. Within the first six weeks of the semester, your professor will discuss research service-learning further in class, and a representative from the HLP will present the service project that has been designed for your course. Detailed information on the service project, requirements for participants in the RSL gateway option, and specific application information will also be distributed in class at this time.
Currently, structured community-based research and capstone opportunities within the public policy curriculum are not available. However, we are working on developing such opportunities. We strongly encourage all current and former RSL gateway option participants to consider conducting an independent summer community-based research project. If interested, please contact RSL Coordinator Trisha Bailey at tab16@duke.edu to request the informational materials that we have developed to assist you in designing and conducting a summer project. |
