The Service Opportunities in Leadership (SOL) Student Handbook is designed to assist all students currently or previously enrolled in the spring gateway course, PUBPOL 196.30: Border Crossing: Leadership, Value Conflicts, and Public Life, who wish to conduct community-based research during the summer.

This Handbook includes information on the SOL program, securing a community partner and faculty mentor, the grant proposal process, the fundamentals of community-based research, and summer logistics. It also includes a comprehensive timeline and checklist, as well as all forms that must be completed and submitted.
