Collaborations
The Triangle Institute for Security Studies is a consortium of the three research universities in the Triangle: Duke, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and North Carolina State University. It cooperates with a wide range of institutions but is also directly affiliated to a number of organizations. Below are links to some of our close partners who have web sites of their own which you may find interesting.
- Carolina for Kibera is an NGO dedicated to reducing youth violence in Kibera, Kenya and founded by TISS Wickersham Scholar, Rye Barcott.
- Curriculum in Peace, War, and Defense - at UNC-Chapel Hill (PWAD) is the old home of TISS and continues to be a close partner especially in our programs.
- Duke Center on Law, Ethics, and National Security (LENS) works closely with TISS especially in organizing conferences
- Duke-UNC Rotary Center for International Studies in Peace and Conflict organizes a number of events which are of interest to our members and the Fellows, at various times, have participated in our own events.
- Duke-UNC Center on Terrorism and Homeland Defense - a Center founded in 2005 and directed by David Schanzer, shares many common concerns with TISS and is located next to us in Rubenstein Hall.
- Duke University's John Hope Franklin Center was the home of TISS between 2000 and 2005; numerous organizations within are partners of TISS, notably the Duke University Center for International Studies.
- UNC's University Center for International Studies (UCIS) is a close partner of TISS especially in outreach to schools.
- UNC'sWorld View is dedicated to increasing globalization in schools: it has become a close partner of TISS in outreach to schools
- North Carolina Central University is represented on the TISS Board, its faculty serve on our Speakers' Bureau, and we have cooperated together over the years in a variety of ways. NCCU has just established a new Institute for Homeland Security and Workforce Development with which we hope to forge close ties.
- United States Army War College (Strategic Studies Institute) has consponsored a number of TIISS spring conferences and published several volumes of conference proceedings.
- Shaw University participates in our programs and TISS cosponsors its Model NATO
