People
The bulk of our members are locals who are able to participate in the full range of activities. They include faculty members and graduate students from the many universities and colleges based in the Triangle, interested community members (many of who have retired after long and fascinating careers in government service) and some undergraduates (Wickersham Scholars). The undergraduates are outstanding students with a marked interest in security studies who have been nominated as members by a faculty member from one of the participating universities. At the very heart of TISS are about 50 core members, most (but not all) of whom are faculty at NCSU, Duke, or UNC. These members include the seven men and women who form the Executive Committee, and the TISS Honorary Fellows. Our membership also includes a number of other scholars from across the nation. Some of them used to be residents of North Carolina. Others joined our organization after speaking at TISS events (including the New Faces Conferences) and yet others have participated in one or more of our research projects.
