Programs

The Triangle Institute for Security Studies seeks to forge a community among persons who share an interest in international security and the history of war and peace as well as to advance knowledge in this area. To further these goals it organizes conferences and evening presentations.

TISS organizes at least two conferences each year. One of these focuses on bringing together scholars, policymakers, and practitioners from across the nation to discuss an issue of concern to the international security studies community. The other, held in September, (New Faces Conference) highlights the work of graduate students in their final years of study. Over the years, TISS conferences have been cosponsored and funded by a variety of institutions, including the Strategic Studies Institute. These conferences are primarily designed to benefit our members but we do welcome other interested persons.

TISS members are also regularly invited to participate in evening presentations. These typically feature noted scholars presenting their latest research or practitioners discussing current issues of policy. In recent years, we have introduced a new program: a dinner-seminar devoted to listening to presentations by undergraduates writing honors papers at their respective colleges.

Besides its core programs, TISS also organizes and posts information about a number of other events. These are listed under Other Events. Public Forums and presentations organized by TISS which are primarily designed to be of interest to the general public are listed under Outreach.
