Law: MPP/JD

This four-year program offers students the analytical and quantitative skills of an MPP to complement their knowledge of the legal system. For more information see Duke’s Law School and its admissions pages. Students may also pursue an MPP at Duke jointly with Duke Law or UNC-Chapel Hill Law Schools. For the MPP/JD joint degree option, separate applications are submitted: One application for the MPP program and another application submitted to either (or both) Duke or UNC-Chapel Hill Law School.

We generally waive the GRE testing requirement and accept the LSAT for Duke/UNC Law School applicants only. However, we strongly encourage submission of the GRE for MPP/JD joint degree applicants to make the application as competitive as that of other applicants who are submitting the GRE.

If you are applying to Duke or UNC Law School: Submit (via the Duke Graduate School, Enrollment Services Office) a copy of the LSAT score report and further indicate both your score and percentile on the "additional information" section of the online application and your resume (which you may upload with your personal statement).

UNC Law School JD/MPP

The combined degrees of JD and Master of Public Policy may be earned in four years by enrollment in the concurrent program of the UNC Law School and Duke’s MPP program. Admission to each school must be gained independently with separate applications.

Normally, the first academic year is spent in the UNC Law School, the second year exclusively in the Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy, and the third and fourth years are spent primarily in the UNC Law School. A candidate must successfully complete a combination of 74 semester hours in the UNC Law School and 39 semester hours in the public policy program.
