August 21, 2007: Duke Libraries’ Data and GIS Services staff, Joel Herndon and Mark Thomas have relocated to the first floor of Perkins Library. Software reference manuals and data and geospatial collections are already in place, and by the middle of the semester, the data/GIS cluster will also offer eight dedicated terminals loaded with the latest GIS and statistical software (SAS, SPSS, Stata, ArcGIS). Perkins Library extends special thanks to the Economics Department for helping to fund the expansion of the data cluster as well as providing its funding for an Economics TA who will assist researchers using data resources at the library.

New Data and GIS Resources for 2007 include International Energy Agency Databases through OECD, on coal, CO2 Emissions, electricity, energy technology R&D, natural gas, and more; Community Sourcebook America 2006 Edition; CPS Utilities - Marriage and Fertility DVD June 1971-2006; CPS Utilities - Voting and Registration DVD November 1972-2004; Eurostat Statistics 2006 (DVD and Web); and Latin American Public Opinion Project (New Data for 2007).

March 13, 2007: The Education Law Consortium at the University of Georgia is sponsoring a writing competition. Papers may be on any topic related to law or policy in education, including K-12 and higher education. Winning papers are published in the Education Law and Policy Forum, an electronic journal, and may be presented at the third annual national student conference hosted at the Institute of Higher Education, University of Georgia, on Sept. 21-22, 2007. September 12, 2006: The Duke Libraries now provide access to the Homeland Security Digital Library through our list of databases and the catalog.

Here is a brief description: A variety of full-text materials made available to researchers by the Naval Postgraduate School and sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Search by keyword or browse by topic. Topics include: immigration, emergency management, intelligence, law and justice, economics, military, politics and government, public health, technology, terrorism and weapons.

Materials include government documents, research studies, CRS reports, GAO reports and testimony, theses and dissertations, case studies and grey literature.
