Children
in Contemporary Society Undergraduate Certificate Program
Sponsored by the Center for Child and Family Policy, the Children in Contemporary
Society Certificate builds students’ knowledge of child and family
issues, while also providing the necessary academic tools for students
to engage in research that informs real policy and practice. Drawing on
child and family-related courses taught in other departments, including
Psychology, Public Policy, Sociology, Economics, and Education, the certificate
offers an interdisciplinary look at the issues shaping today’s children
and adolescents.
Health Policy Certificate Program
The Health Policy Certificate, offered by the Center for Health Policy, prepares
students for careers in health care policy, management and associated professions.
The certificate program draws upon established research in health services
centered in economics, political science, public policy and sociology, but
also recognizes the contributions to health care debates originating in the
disciplines of anthropology, history, law, philosophy, psychology and religion.
Global Health Certificate
The Duke University Global Health Institute offers the Global Health Certificate
in order to spur student involvement with community health care on both the
local and international level, with the explicit goal of eliminating disparities
in quality of care. Certificate candidates learn the skills necessary to synthesize
current knowledge in new ways and to formulate innovative solutions that could
improve the health care options for underserved populations.
The Policy Journalism and Media Studies Certificate
The Dewitt Wallace Center for Media and Democracy, part of Duke University’s
Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy, offers this certificate. This certificate
meets the needs of students preparing for careers in media policy, journalism,
or any and the associated professions, as global communications enters into
a period of rapid and profound change.
